The porcini or king bolete is one of the most prized edible mushrooms worldwide. It has a brown cap, thick white stem with fine reticulation, and pores instead of gills. The flesh does not change color when cut.

Ectomycorrhizal symbiont with a broad host range including spruce, pine, birch, and oak. Important for forest health and nutrient cycling.
